Marlow end pre-season tour with clean sweep of the Scorchers

Marlow Mariners Softball Team

The excitement is starting to build in Marlow right now. The first pitch of the new Windsor and Maidenhead District Mixed Softball League is just around the corner and the Mariners will be making their league debut. Months of spring training have come to an end and the newly formed team are eager to get started.

The pre-season was in reality just the one game held at Westmorland Park near Bracknell where the Scorchers host their home games. And as for the clean sweep, Marlow won that solitary game and so ended their pre-season tour with a 100% record.

The game got off to a slow start for Marlow as the experience of the Bracknell players quickly showed. The home side scored several early runs to give Marlow a mountain to climb in the later innings. Not afraid to take on a challenge, Marlow soon got their way back into the game with a series of big hits that included Man of the Match Alex Sutherland scoring a grand slam home run. By the time five innings were up and the game was over, Marlow had put themselves into 20-17 lead and so claimed an historic victory.
