Rattlesnakes bite proves too much for Marlow

James Rollison batting for the Marlow Mariners softball team

This was not the performance the Marlow Mariners were looking for as they suffered their worst defeat in the Windsor and Maidenhead District Mixed Softball League at the hands of the Rattlesnakes.

It didn't seem to be going too badly at first as the score stood at 3-0 in favour of the Rattlesnakes at the top of the third. An excellent double play by Rick Krajewski in the second innings did a lot to raise the confidence of Marlow but it soon went downhill from there.

Where previously the batting had been strong for Marlow, on this occasion it was far from it as they struggled to even make the second base, let alone all the way round. Had it not been for a good hit by Natalie Birch with the final hit of the game to get James Rollison to the home plate, it could so easily have been worse. The final result however was 17-1 to the Rattlesnakes.

The Mariners will have to pick themselves up, brush off this defeat and give it their all to try and finish the season on a high. With only one away game and one home game remaining, time is running out to add to their solitary league win, a win that now seems so long ago. The next game will see Marlow travel to the Richings Park Sports Club in Iver where they will take on the Falcons.
