Late run spree for the Rattlesnakes proves too much for Marlow

The Marlow Mariners suffered their heaviest defeat of the season in the Windsor and Maidenhead District Mixed Softball League as they lost out to a late run spree by the Rattlesnakes at Farnham Park.

It's hard to see where the Mariners went wrong in this game. The batting remained strong and all through the batting orders players were consistently getting hits. Fielding was good and the players are improving in terms of positioning and making plays. What made this game hard was perhaps the quality of the Rattlesnakes' catching, particularly in the left field, and this made it very difficult for the Mariners to convert their hits into runs.

In return, the Mariners managed to keep the Rattlesnakes' score down in the first three innings and made sure the game stayed competitive early on. A lapse in the fourth inning however, allowed the Rattlesnakes to rapidly increase their run total and take the game out of Marlow's grasp. In the end it was another agonising defeat for the Mariners as the score finished 22-5.

The next game will see Marlow play host to the Richings Park Falcons and the Mariners will be looking for their first league win.
