Despite being a new team that has struggled get to get wins in the league, Marlow Mariners continued their excellent tournament softball form as they came second overall in Maidenhead Softball Club's Hit and Run tournament at North Maidenhead Cricket club on Sunday.
It didn't get off to a great start for Marlow as they narrowly lost to Richings Park Hawks in their opening group match followed by a draw against Brighton Beachcombers, but this was followed by wins over Reading and Mortimer Saxons and BA Flyers. With two wins and a draw, Marlow not only qualified from their group but qualified in the top half to go through to the Cup semi-finals.
In the semi-finals they played one of the favourites for the tournament - Bracknell Scorchers - and put on their best performance of the day as they took a strong early lead. Bracknell tried to get their way back in to the game but time soon ran out. So with Marlow into the final, a rematch was to be played against BA Flyers with the latter looking to take revenge for their earlier defeat. The good fortune that had been with Marlow for much of the day soon ran out and it didn't take long for BA to gain a strong lead. Time slipped by quickly and Marlow were left unable to reduce the deficit.
