The learning curve proves too steep for Marlow

The Marlow Mariners suffered their second successive defeat as the inexperience of the Windsor and Maidenhead District Mixed Softball League's newest team began to show. The downfall once again was in the opening innings when the Richings Park Hawks were able to bat their way to an early lead that proved insurmountable for Marlow.
Two home runs by Alex Sutherland in the third and fourth innings proved insufficient to overhaul the Hawks' lead and with the score at 23-8, the ballgame was called at the end of the fifth inning due to fifteen run deficit.
Despite the defeat, Marlow will take confidence from the game as they once again showed signs of improvement. Hitting remains strong all through the batting order and both James and Eddy are showing consistency in pitching. A superb fourth innings saw two of the big hitters from the Hawks struck out.
The next game will see Marlow play host to the Ascot Blue Jays and the Mariners will be looking for their first league win.
