Consistency will be key to Marlow success
The Marlow Mariners suffered yet another defeat in their rookie season of the Windsor and Maidenhead District Mixed Softball League and again the margin of their defeat to the Richings Park Falcons provided an unfair reflection of their performance throughout the game.
Marlow took the lead in the first innings and in just that one inning scored more runs than they did in the whole of the previous game against the Rattlesnakes. The scores remained close until the fourth innings when cracks started to appear in the Marlow display and the Falcons quickly capitalised on these to take a commanding lead.
From the evidence on display during the game and throughout the season, the Mariners know they can play, they just need to maintain a greater level of consistency. Pitching, fielding and batting have all been excellent at times. Top opposition players are being struck out, double plays are being made and home runs are being scored, now they just need to do it more frequently.
The important thing the players need to remember is that this is the Mariners' rookie season, all the players are new and facing an opposition with significantly more experience, very often an opposition that has borrowed players from the league above.
The Mariners will need to move on from this defeat and keep their focus as they prepare themselves for next week's double header against the Maidenhead Rebels at the North Maidenhead Cricket Club.
